Raw, unfiltered, and uncompromisingly honest, “Live at Dreamland” is Fallulah’s musical rebirth, recorded at the legendary Dreamland Recording Studios.
In spring 2024, Fallulah headed to the iconic Dreamland Studios in upstate New York to strip back her music to its core. Known for collaborations with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Feist, and The National, Dreamland’s analog setting was perfect for her bold, introspective experiment.
Inspired by creative purity
Drawing inspiration from the Danish film movement “Dogme95”, led by Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg, Fallulah applied similar principles to her music. With limited time, no rehearsals, and only the instruments available at Dreamland, she embraced the unpredictability of the session. Each song had to be captured in one take, adding spontaneity and rawness to the project.
Four songs, one vision
“Live at Dreamland” presents four tracks that strip Fallulah’s music to its essence. The songs are both delicate and powerful, revealing a newfound clarity. In contrast to her earlier, more theatrical style, this EP is understated but confident, marked by a calmness that reflects an artist fully in control of her craft. I feel this creative clarity the most in “Coffee”. The song is filled with a distant hint of melancholy, while playful and bold in experimentation with different sounds.
Rooted in simplicity, soaring in emotion
The beauty of “Live at Dreamland” lies in its fragility. Each song feels like a breath between moments, allowing space for every note to resonate. The minimalist approach only enhances Fallulah’s vocal presence, highlighting her raw expression and quiet power. You can hear it in “Butterflies”, where Fallulah allows her vocals to slowly blossom with every sound.
A new chapter
“Live at Dreamland” is more than just an EP, it reflects Fallulah’s reconnection with her artistry. Stripped down and organic, it marks a new creative chapter, driven by authenticity and fearlessness. Fallulah is charting her own path, and this EP leaves us eager for what’s next.
In 2022, Fallulah moved away from mainstream streaming platforms, choosing to release music through Bandcamp, where fans can directly support her. The “Live at Dreamland” session is also available on YouTube, and fans can connect more closely with her on Patreon.
