FILIPPA charmed us with her song “Just One Night”. Today, we are proud to premiere the music video for her latest single “Slowmover”. Another pop gem from this talented artist proves that sophisticated pop music can be powerful and moving.
Filippa de Neergaard from Copenhagen, performing under the moniker FILIPPA, is a bright star on the Danish music sky. Her new single has a summery vibe, despite parts of the video being set in a frosty environment. “Slowmover” describes a behaviour that many of us experienced: hesitating to go all in into a relationship, wondering too much instead of taking action. However, slowmovers are worth the wait, FILIPPA contemplates in the end.
The lyrics are wrapped around a light, synth-based melody, perfect for a loud summer road trip. FILIPPA knows when to surprise and when to keep it simple, so the music, lyrics, and visuals complement but not overshadow each other.
The video for “Slowmover” was directed by FILIPPA and Emma Ishøy.
“I had such a strong visual vibe with ‘Slowmover’, wrote the manuscript for the video, and instructed on set while being on camera. It was quite a handful, but since the song feels so near to me, I just had to make it the most FILIPPA-ish as possible. The video shows the duality between a girl in waiting positions and the ice skater as a symbol of freedom and dreams. I wanted it to have a nostalgic atmosphere in all the settings as well, and I love the way it turned out,” says FILIPPA about the work on set.
We can indeed catch a strong dreamy vibe from the video. At the same time, it looks sometimes like shots from a documentary. The static shots of FILIPPA contrast with the dynamic images of an ice skate dancer. In the end, there is a moment of suspense, because we do not know how the actual performance ended. There is an intriguing flow in the sequences of scenes, going from FILIPPA to the ice rink and back. A nice touch, which more artists should use in their videos, is the lyrics showing on the screen along with the images.
To all the slowmovers out there, this is a song to let you know you’re not alone, and you’re worth the wait. Your fragility is your beauty.
