SPOT Festival is THE festival Good because Danish is looking forward to the most each year and 2018 is no different. Because where else to go if we want to find out what’s new and hot in Danish music, than to Aarhus in May? The answer is simple: there is no other place to be! The line-up of this year’s SPOT Festival is shaping up pretty awesome and we started digging into it to see what are our top #mustsee acts. Check out the blog the next weeks to read which SPOT Festival concert we will attend for sure.

EA KAYA

Good pop music, which has its own style and is able to interest the listener, is not something very common to hear these days. Christine Kiberg, a.k.a. Ea Kaya brings a new quality and freshness in this area for sure. With a debut single “Remedy”, a great pop piece with a hint of R’n’B here and there, she made us hungry for more and curious about her live performance. We had a chance to ask Ea Kaya a few questions before SPOT, check out our little interview below.

Why music?

Ea Kaya: It’s the only passion I’ve ever had. And probably ever will have. I’ve sung and written since I was a little kid, and it’s always felt natural for me to pursue what I both love the most and feel like I do best.

What’s your way to move forward in the music industry as an upcoming artist? What is the most important to have – in your opinion – to develop as a professional artist these days?

You obviously have to challenge yourself. It’s great to have teams around you that you work well with, and it’s only positive if you’ve found an effective approach to writing music. But personally, I’ve found myself writing songs that suddenly sound a bit similar, because I’ve constantly put myself in rooms with the same people and build up the songs in the exact same way. Another factor is of course what happens in your life besides music. If your life is based on routines and comfort zones, you’ll quickly run out of inspiration.

What’s on your personal playlist now? What do you listen to, what inspires you?

I’ve been listening to a lot to Cornelia Jakobs, Billie Eilish and Nina Nesbitt lately. Three very different artists, but man they can write.

SPOT Festival is getting closer, what can we expect from your performance – if you had to use only one word to describe it?

Honestly, I’m curious too! It’s my first show with a band that lasts more than 10 minutes, so I’m kind of dying already. But I guarantee you it’s gonna be energetic!

Ea Kaya seems to come into the music industry to go on top – what is along the way for you for the upcoming months?

I’m actually releasing my next single in May! It’s been absurdly complicated to get this one out, so I really can’t wait!
