NorthSide Festival 2016 in AarhusAt the end of this week, one of Denmark’s most successful and quickest growing festivals is finally kicking off in Aarhus again: the cozy and cool NorthSide Festival!

Year after year, the young festival (which started as a one-day-event in 2010!) manages to gather outstanding names for its line-up – and 2016 will be no exception. Between 17. and 19. June, international acts like oldie-but-goldie rockstar Iggy Pop, Iceland’s magical Sigur Rós and the dreamy duo Beach House play the green surroundings of Ådalen alongside many diverse names of the Danish music scene.

Among the latter we’re especially looking forward to rocking sisters Velvet Volume, promising R’n’B duo phlake, upcoming pop star Alex Vargas, electronic trio Av Av Av, Danish darlings The Minds of 99 and freetown Christiania’s very own export hit Lukas Graham, returning home from US-American adventures.

What makes the Aarhus-based festival so special is not only the finely curated musical line-up, but also all the exciting things happening around it. NorthSide aims to create Denmark’s most innovative and sustainable music event – and it’s already on the best way! The numerous food booths that frame the festival area offer tasty, diverse meals which this year must be made by at least 90% ecological ingredients. And the festival is also battling the huge amount of trash that is often not avoidable at such a huge event and managed to sort and recycle 53% of all its waste in 2015 – the goal for 2016 is 60%! If you find these facts as awesome as we do, you can read more about NorthSide’s green profile HERE.
