Great news! After a relatively long period of silence since the release of their critically acclaimed debut mini-album “Ragazzi” in 2014, Cancer is back and grants us with not just one, but indeed two new songs and videos recorded live at DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen. Hurra! And just in case you hadn’t noticed yet, Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild and Kristian Finne Kristensen show once again with these two tracks that pretty much everything they touch turns into something magical.
One of the new songs is the rather unexpected cover of the mega hit by Toni Braxton “Un-Break My Heart”. Quite a bold choice, you may think, but Cancer is perfectly meeting the challenge and Vonsild’s vocal performance is impeccable. The other one is a song of their own called “Testa Nera Prima”, and as the Italian title may suggest, it is fully in line with the minimalistic musical tradition established with “Ragazzi”. And it’s beautiful, especially when the two sing together, Kristian Finne’s warm and calm vocals being the perfect balance to Vonsild’s somehow more tortured voice.
