We Are The Way For The Cosmos To Know Itself. Probably one of the longest yet most beautiful band names in the musical universe Denmarks. And a name that not only originates in a quote of famous American astronomer and science writer Carl Sagan, but that also gives a first hint of the influence and inspiration behind WATWFTCTKIS’ music:

“The surface of the Earth is the shore of the cosmic ocean. On this shore, we’ve learned most of what we know. Recently, we’ve waded a little way out, maybe ankle-deep, and the water seems inviting. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can. Because the cosmos is also within us. We’re made of star-stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.”

The four-piece, consisting of Julie Christiansen, Martin Rasmussen, Lasse Jacobsen and Mads Kinnerup, devoted itself also musically to the exploration of galactic spheres by making playful, yet intelligent cosmic-electronic trance music.

With the track “Tiger”, that was published on 23. May, WATWFTCTKIS now released a fine, unique “pop song”, that also reflects the band’s general sound: A lot of old synths, lo-fi samplers and acoustic drums that is”, explains Mads the song’s essence to Good because Danish, “Also, the track is very tight composed – meaning the track count is quite low just like in old school electronic music.”

Add Julie’s floating, aerial vocals (slightly reminiscent of Blue Foundation’s former member Kirstine Stubbe Teglbjærg or The Knife’s Karin Dreijer Andersson) and “Tiger” takes you on an intergalactic journey through abtract, dreamy, star-studded soundscapes.

“We are very commited at playing electronic music in a band constellation. Our concerts are highly energetic and the project is really based around that live experience”, tells Mads, “We put a lot of hard work into our concerts and make a big deal out of having a mutual energy all together – emphasizing on jams and playing the music live using lots of different instruments.” One chance to experience WATWFTCTKIS’ trippy, ecstastic live shows, will be among others on the Apollo Countdown Stage at Roskilde Festival this year!
