It has been over a month since the release of a new Sleep Party People’s album – “Lingering”. There is no point to examine Brian Batz’s new born baby because everyone is unanimous – it is gorgeous, magical and… let us just quote The 405’s review: “…is poised to be one of the year’s best records. With a deft and intoxicating brand of dreamy pop, as well as collaborations from the likes of Peter Silberman from The Antlers and Beth Hirsch, Lingering has all the ingredients to be a smash success.”
Undeniably, there is one thing, which deserves to be discussed and made us feel obliged to write about – a hypnotizing music video to a song called “Fainting Spell”. Yes indeed – it had put a spell on us!
This time, the Danish multi-instrumentalist genius involved his fans in making this video. It may be called a collaboration between artists and bunny-masks lovers, who could create their own mask and send the picture to Batz. These black and white pictures may seem confusing or even disturbing. The song is about fear of being observed by others, being judged and being confronted with overwhelming someone else’s look. The sound and pictures are united and inseparable from each other. It is one life on the edge of the terrifying world. But there is no place for accidental moves – everything is perfect and beautiful in its insecurity.
We are all used to this dreamy freaky style, but we have to admit, that this time Brian Batz has really excelled himself and made a good piece of awesome music – beyond everyone’s expectations.
We also would like to remind you, all of you, of upcoming Sleep Party People‘s 2017 tour! Make your own bunny-mask and get ready!
