Danish events in pretty unique locations - Photo by Bobby Anwar

Despite the fact that some of Denmark’s main festivals – such as Roskilde Festival or NorthSide – are already over for this year and have already blessed us with lovely summer memories, our favourite Nordic country has still a few more cool events up its sleeve. And many of those happen in locations that are quite different from the good old open festival field!

Since we’re not only fans of Danish music, but also of Denmark and live music, we collected 10 of these unique events that are worth checking out. After our popular first post, check out Part 2 below!

Event 6 - Musik i Lejet

Musik i Lejet: cozy festival at the beach

21-23.07.2016 – Tisvilde: Tisvildeleje – Event on Facebook

Imagine sitting on a white and vast beach with a cold drink in your hands, sand between your toes and music in your ears. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? The successful summer festival Musik i Lejet brings you pretty close to this day dream since it’s perfectly located in-between the beach of cozy town Tisvilde on one side and its green pine forest on the other. This location gets only upgraded by the great line-up that the festival offers each year!

Event 7 - Trailerpark Festival

TRAILERPARK Festival: music and arts festival in a skate park

28-30.07.2016 – Copenhagen: CPH Skatepark – Event on Facebook

Being an absolute sucker for creativity and aesthetics, Trailerpark Festival which is effortlessly combining music, art and technology, quickly turned into one of my all-time-favourite festivals and – since I am not alone here – it easily counts as one of the coolest summer events in Denmark. Adding to the festival’s unique and edgy vibes is the urban location of Copenhagen Skatepark when its ramps and half-pipes transform into hang-out spots, dance floor and artistic canvas during the festival weekend.

Event 8 - Smukfest

Smukfest: fun festival in a forest

03-07.08.2016 – Skanderborg: Bøgeskoven – Event on Facebook

The nickname of Skanderborg-based Smukfest actually refers to its title as “Denmark’s most beautiful festival” – and let’s be honest: a huge homely and almost romantic beech forest really does sound like a beautiful setting for the live concerts at Denmark’s second largest festival. Make sure to also check out Live Camp, Smukfest’s own warm-up days, featuring many exciting upcoming Danish acts.

Event 9 - Wonderfestiwall

Wonderfestiwall: festival on the Danish sunshine island

18-21.08.2016 – Bornholm: Opalsøen – Event on Facebook

Denmark’s beloved sunshine island Bornholm – located close to Sweden’s southern shores in the Baltic sea – is hands-down always worth a visit on its own; even more so in the end of August when it’s home to a wonderful music festival, suitingly titled Wonderfestiwall. Since it can be a bit tricky to get to the lovely island, the festival organizers put together practical all-inclusive travel packages from Copenhagen and offer a range of different sleeping options for the festival guests – so there’s really no reason not to go!

Event 10 - Plugout Festival

Plugout Festival: electronic festival in a renaissance castle

01-04.09.2016 – Bredsten: Engelsholm Castle – Event on Facebook

Dancing to electronic tunes in an authentic renaissance castle? Sounds like a dream come true for anyone who is fascinated by both, the charm of royal times and good electronica. In fact, that’s the unique frame for Plugout Festival. Happening in the beautiful surroundings of Engelsholm Castle in the western part of Jutland, the fresh electronic festival aims to challenge the standard setting and understanding of electronic live music.
