Following some high profile supporting gigs, several mentions in Danish media, and irresistible single “Greet Me”, ANYA brings us her first official single “Need To Know”. With this new track, it is easy to understand her legitimate buzz.

Emotionally, the single acts as, of sorts, a sequel to “Greet Me”. Here we see ANYA on the other foot; gone is the guilt of messing up a relationship, instead we get vulnerability, a plea to her past lover to explain why they fell apart. ANYA wears both emotions with ease, a testament to her genuine human relatability.

Over delicious rubbery analogue synth basses, crisp 808 beats and shimmery piano flourishes, ANYA vocally drops her angst with ease. An addictive chorus and airy backing vocals lend “Need To Know” that air of breezy, understated 90’s R’n’b. Think Lauren Hill minus the rapping.

Props to the Michael Fassbender reference in the outro. The idea of hooking up with a guy who looks like the actor is obviously a tongue-in-cheek move, but it also brings to light the desperation in trying to forget her ex. She is simultaneously funny and tragic, a tone that is hard to nail. ANYA shows us once again why she should stick around.
