Can you play blues or bass-sounding-like songs on a cello? Astrid Nora, a.k.a. Where did Nora go surely can and she’s great in it! She’s also great in writing compositions that have a unique atmosphere. The new single “Shimmer” (released 22. August 2014) once again proves it right.
Where did Nora go manages to make the classical instrument work with more popular music. That combination seems to be really natural for her. Ever since the debut EP “Away, Away, Away”, the same magical, slightly muffled landscape of the movie “The Secret Garden” comes back to my mind whenever I hear a new song from the Copenhagen-based artist. With “Shimmer” I find myself walking around the green fields on a foggy, cold morning. The world is a bit unreal and well-known hide-outs turn into mysterious places.
The new single is after the song “Shelter” another preview of the upcoming Where did Nora go album, titled “Shimmer” (premiere: 8. September 2014). The core of the song “Shimmer” is a mix of the pulsing cello and the vibrant vocals (whenever I hear it, I imagine Astrid Nora as a fairy, whispering her spells to my ears when I fall asleep). That heart of “Shimmer” is wrapped around by very frugal, yet perfectly fitting electronic ornaments.
